Planned Giving
Planned (or Estate) gifts provide the critical fuel which secures our future, provides expanded opportunities and allows our vital work to flourish in the future. Your goodwill is the fuel that has enabled Society for the Blind to provide life-altering programs. By including Society for the Blind in your financial planning, you can provide a legacy that will help ensure our mission to empower individuals who are blind or have low vision to live productively and independently by building confidence through training, tools and mentorship.
Planned giving is a vehicle for donors of all levels to leave a legacy of support larger than what your current assets and needs might allow. There are a number of effective and creative ways to include Society for the Blind in your estate plan, providing a strong future for Society for the Blind while accomplishing your income needs in the present.
Here are a few possibilities:
Wills & Living Trusts
Instruments that allow you to leave a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate as a bequest gift to Society for the Blind. Sample language for including the Society in your will:
“I give $_________ (or ___% of my estate) to Society for the Blind, a California nonprofit corporation, federal tax ID # 94-1384666, for its general uses and purposes. Society for the Blind is currently located at 1238 S Street, Sacramento, CA.”
Life Insurance
You can name Society for the Blind as a full or partial beneficiary on a life insurance policy.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
You might consider turning securities or real estate into an income stream that pays you now, and becomes a gift to Society for the Blind later. For example, you can place a house or rental property into a Charitable Remainder Trust. Once it’s sold, you’ll receive income every year, and at the end of your life, the remaining principal becomes your legacy gift to Society for the Blind. You may speak with an estate attorney to learn more.
Retirement Plans (IRA, 401(k), pension, etc.)
You can name Society for the Blind as a beneficiary of your retirement plan. It’s a simple process, and a valuable bequest vehicle, affecting the tax rate paid. You may speak with an estate attorney to learn more.
Your gift can also be a tribute gift, honoring a family member or friend forever. Society for the Blind hopes you will remember us when making your plans. If you have already named Society for the Blind in your will or trust, we would be honored to know about your planned gift.
Please call (916) 452-8271 and ask to speak with the Development Director. This would allow us to honor your intentions and motivate others to support our future as well.
