The Senior IMPACT Project
Independence at Any Age
Senior Day Retreat
A seven-day intensive training held each month in Sacramento includes
classes in: Cane Travel, Daily Living Skills, Introduction to Braille,
and Introduction to Computers. Participants receive individual
attention from certified instructors and are coached by adept blind
mentors.
In addition to these classes, participants also engage in discussion
groups and seminars on blindness and activities in the community.
Participants acquire life altering skills and positive
attitudes while forming long lasting bonds with other seniors
experiencing vision loss.
Senior Residential Retreat
SIP is hosting residential retreats in Sacramento for individuals who
either live outside the Sacramento area, or want a specialized retreat
in one of the following: alternative language, advanced living skills
cutting edge adaptive technology, or secondary disability awareness.
All five day long residential retreats will be held at a downtown hotel
and are free of charge for participants.
In-Home Training
If an individual is unable to attend the senior day retreat for health
or mobility reasons, short-term, in-home training is available. After
assessment, if we determine that in-home training is necessary, a
skilled instructor will visit the senior’s home in order to teach
skills and offer resources based on the individual’s needs and
goals.
Support Groups and Special Services
Support groups provide seniors with resources and methods for coping
with vision loss. The Senior IMPACT Project offers support groups at
our Sacramento agency to individuals losing their vision. We also
partner with and help establish various support groups throughout
Northern California. On occasion, we offer special workshops and
seminars on family support, organization, and other important topics.
