Partnership for Independence since 1954Society for the Blind serves thousands of blind and visually impaired people throughout the Sacramento area and surrounding counties. We are the only center in this region that trains blind and low vision people on Braille, life skills, computers and job skills. Our mission is to empower individuals who are blind or have low vision to live productively and independently by building confidence through training, tools and mentorship. for the Blind! NEWS & EVENTS June 10, 2008 - Six seniors will graduate from this month's seven day intensive senior retreat. Throughout the week, these individuals will learn non-visual techniques for independent living activities ranging from sewing buttons to preparing meals to changing light bulbs. June 2, 2008 - Rachel G. was named the recipient of the first annual Society for the Blind scholarship for higher education. Rachel has been an active participant with Society for the Blind and other community groups over the past few years. She is just finishing her freshman year at a California State University, where she is working toward a degree in music. The $1,000 scholarship is funded by private donors. June 2, 2008 - Society for the Blind hosted its second annual golf tournament at Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove. 105 golfers came out to enjoy perfect weather on the beautiful course. Proceeds from this event will go toward our youth program and other Society services.
