2011 Braille Challenge

The Society for the Blind, in collaboration with the Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired; the Braille Institute of America, and the San Francisco LightHouse, announce the 2011 Braille Challenge, an academic contest that rewards students for their pursuit of excellence in the field of Braille literacy. Youth from across Northern California will be congregating at the LightHouse on February 26 for this exciting, annual contest.

Hosted by Society for the Blind for individuals interested in learning more about the promotion of increased employment retention and upward mobility of persons with disabilities in the public sector is welcome.   
 
OCTOBER 23  27TH ANNUAL NORTHERN CALIFORNIA BLIND & LOW VISION OLYMPICS 2010
Sponsored by Society for the Blind, in partnership with CA State University Sacramento-Department of Kinesiology and City of Sacramento Department of Parks & Recreation-Access Leisure Section. A track & field sporting event at CSUS for youth aged 18 and under who are blind or have low vision.


JULY 16-25  2010 SUMMER CAMP FOR BLIND YOUTH
Open to all blind or low vision youth who are ages 11-18 and residents of California..

JULY 10  FREE LOW VISION EVENT
Sponsored by Low Vision Clinic, Enhanced Vision, Foundation Fighting Blindness & A&E Low Vision Specialists and hosted by Society for the Blind

MAY 31-JULY 2  2010 SUMMER YOUTH WORK PROGRAM
Society for the Blind and California Employment Development Department (EDD) sponsor
internships for youth in office support, retail and food services through Business Enterprise and Youth Enrichment programs.

JUNE 14  4TH ANNUAL BUILD INDEPENDENCE GOLF TOURNAMENT
Hosted by Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove - Next years tournament will be June 13, 2011 - same location.

MAY 15   NEW FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP & EDUCATIONAL SEMINAR
Hosted by Society for the Blind. Information and support for families, partners and friends whose loved ones are blind or have low vision.

April 9   MAJOR DONOR RECEPTION AT THE NEW BUILDING
250 major donors gathered to celebrate at a private reception hosted by Society for the Blinds Board of Directors. Donors raised over $3.9 million. 60% of the new facility is now open.


March 19  SOCIETY FOR THE BLIND moved to 1238 S Street, our newly renovated facility in midtown Sacramento
